Now as I map out a future plan, I have decided to publish a series for my next three releases. I have questioned why I wouldn’t continue with the Men of Action series over a brand new series.
Now, to be clear the first book in this new series was already written before I lost focus. I had been shopping it to agents and publishers accepting direct submissions as a contemporary romance. So, it’s not completely “new” but my approach is.
A couple things I considered:
- This new series is in the range of 50-60K. My first Novel is a longer romance, 80K with suspense elements. The plot and storyline were a bit more involved and would have taken me longer to start, or restart as it were.
- I have a clear vision for the new series that will span 3 books. All brothers, all taking place in the same area. World building wouldn’t be a huge obstacle in this series.
- This is a case study. I couldn’t expand on what isn’t selling. So, fresh start here we come…Again.
Tanaka Book 1 is complete and I have secured an editor. Tanaka Book 2 is in revision and will be ready to go to the editor soon. Tanaka Book 3, I will begin writing and have complete three months after the revision of Tanaka Book 2. (If I had a good title I would use it but I haven’t decided on one.)
This is how my writing plan should have been outlined from the beginning. I had put too much emphasis on releasing the first book and no strategic thought to the time, resources, or steps I needed to accomplish the second and subsequent installments.
